Media Boo
Privacy policy
Effective 27 October 2026
In short: Media Boo has no accounts, no cloud and no tracking. Your files, your profile and your networks stay on your devices and move directly between the computers and phones you connect. Quru Lab never receives them.
The only things that reach us are an app asking mediaboo.com whether there's a new version, and ordinary visits to this website.
Who we are
Media Boo is owned and made by Quru Lab Limited ("Quru Lab", "we", "us"). This policy covers the Media Boo apps for Mac, Windows, Linux and Android, and this website, mediaboo.com.
What stays on your device
Media Boo keeps these on the device it runs on, in its own app data folder or the system keychain:
- Your profile: the name, photo and colour you choose, and the device's name.
- The device's key, which identifies it to others. The private half never leaves the device.
- Your settings, the folder you choose to share (your public folder) and your download folder.
- The network you're in, its members and, if you host it, its key.
- Your transfers, and totals of what you've sent and received.
- Previews of images, made so folders load quickly.
None of this is sent to Quru Lab.
What people in your network can see
Media Boo only connects devices in the same network, and only after its host lets them in. Everyone in a network can see each member's:
- name, photo and colour, device name, operating system, app version, local network address and device fingerprint;
- public folder: the files in it, which members can open, download from and add to;
- files sent to them directly, only if they accept.
Hosts keep an activity log. The host of a network keeps a log on their own device of who joined, approvals and removals, and file activity such as downloads, uploads and sends, with the device details above, file names, sizes and times. Members' apps send their file activity to the host for this log. The host can export it. Join a network only if you're happy for its host to keep this record.
Nothing outside your public folder is shared, and nothing is shared with people outside your network.
What reaches Quru Lab
Update checks
The desktop app checks mediaboo.com for a newer version when it opens and when you ask it to in Settings. Like any web request, this shares your internet address and the app's version and system type with our website host. When you install an update, it downloads from mediaboo.com.
This website
When you visit mediaboo.com or download Media Boo, our hosting provider records ordinary server logs: your internet address, browser, the pages and files requested and when. We use them only to keep the site running and secure. The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising. It remembers your light or dark theme in your own browser.
When you contact us
If you write to us, we keep your message and contact details to answer you.
What we don't do
- We don't see, store, scan or back up your files.
- We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking in the apps or on this website.
- We don't sell or rent personal information, or share it for advertising.
Permissions the apps ask for
- Local network: to find and connect to the other devices in your network. Media Boo doesn't send your files over the internet.
- Camera (phones): to scan a host's QR code. Images aren't saved or sent.
- All files access (Android): only so the folder you choose can be your public folder. Media Boo shares only that folder.
- Notifications (Android): to show that the phone is hosting a network.
How your files are protected
Every connection between devices is encrypted (TLS 1.3) and both sides prove who they are with their device keys. A network's key is never sent over the network, guesses are limited, and nobody joins without the host's approval. Files are checked as they arrive so damaged pieces are fetched again. No system is perfectly secure, so share only with people you trust.
Your choices
- Change your name and photo, choose or stop sharing a public folder, and leave a network at any time in the app.
- Ask a host to remove you from their network, or a host can remove members.
- Uninstalling Media Boo and deleting its app data removes what it kept on that device. Files you downloaded stay where they were saved until you delete them.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights over personal information we hold, such as asking to see or delete it. Because the apps don't send us your information, most of it is on your own devices; for anything we hold, such as messages you sent us, contact us.
Children
Media Boo is made for teams and households sharing files. It isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll say so in the app or on this website.
